High Risk Infected of HIV? CDC Advises Drink Drugs Every Day


Atlanta , U.S. , HIV transmission can be prevented . The use of condoms during sex quite effectively prevent the risk virus transfer . But for people who are at risk , the CDC says it needs additional ways .


According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention U.S. , the people who are considered at risk include:
- Couples who like to have sex without a condom
- Not have HIV but have intercourse with HIV
- Homosexual or bisexual men who have ever suffered from certain sexually transmitted diseases within the last six months and is not only associated with one person only
- Heterosexual man or woman who does not always wear a condom when having sex with someone who actually at risk , and always changing partners
- People who ever shared drug paraphernalia such as by injection .



that’s why, it publishes new guidelines to prevent people who are at risk in order to avoid them to be actually infected with HIV . The trick is to get them to consume drugs which belonging to the PrEP ( pre - exposure prophylaxis ) each day .



A number of studies also have shown that this method can reduce the rate of infection in people at risk by more than 90 percent , especially if taken every day regularly.



" Maybe one day there is no vaccine or other medication that will stop the HIV epidemic , but at least PrEP could be a powerful medicine and has potential to reduce the HIV epidemic in the U.S. today, " said Dr. Jonathan Mermin , director of the National Center for HIV - AIDS , Viral Hepatitis , STD and TB Prevention , CDC , as quoted by CNN , Saturday ( 05/17/2014 ) .



However, the only drug that can meet the criteria of PrEP is Truvada . The drug is approved for use by the FDA in 2012, is a combination of two antiretroviral drugs to prevent HIV .



The problem , Truvada is not a cheap drug . Truvada consumption within a month can cost ranges between 1300-1700 U.S. dollars ( approximately USD 15-19 million ) . However, these costs are being sought in order to covered by insurance .



the immunology Experts are concerned about the of HIV - AIDS , Dr. Anthony Fauci says that this is an effective way to prevent the spread of AIDS viruses.



" The benefit is not only for patients at risk of HIV , but also help reduce new HIV infections across the United States. And also , this drug should be taken with the use of condoms , and not merely replacing a condom , " said the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the National Institutes of Health .
