Computer systems belonging to the nuclear reactor operators in South Korea hacked. But fortunately there is no important data stolen. And most importantly, the action does not endanger the 23 nuclear reactors located in South Korea.
This attack appears in the middle of another cyber attack that occurred on a computer network owned by Sony Pictures, in which the United States accused North Korea as the culprit.
South Korea's energy minister said that he believes the computer system in the reactor would be safe from any cyber attacks that could compromise security.
"We have made it such the control system, and (this system) is not at all at risk (against cyber attack)," said Chung Yang-ho, as quoted by Reuters on Monday (12/22/2014).
There are also representatives of the nuclear reactor operator who ensures that the computer system is very safe, and can not be penetrated by any hacker.
"There won’t be hacker can turn off a nuclear reactor by hacking our computer system. That's because the system runs independently and closed," said the representative of Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power, the reactor operators.
Until now, the only claim of the action is a person through a Twitter account which claim him as perpetrator. He claimed to be the chairman of the anti-nuclear group based in Hawaii.
In twitter, he asked the operator to shut down three nuclear reactors is quite old age. He also threatened to deploy the documents belonging to the reactor operator if the request is not granted.
But both the government and the operators have not been able to verify the truth of the claim. Both had no relevance calling North Korea in the action.
