- Thailand's information technology ministry had blocked the social networking
site Facebook on Wednesday ( 28/5 ) local time . Facebook blocked to prevent
anti-government protest military ruling the country the white elephant .
In addition to Facebook , television stations such as the BBC and CNN also has
blocked the broadcast . Ministry of Information Technology plans to discuss
with the management of social networking sites in addition to Facebook and asked
them to remove the protest against the government .
" We have blocked Facebook for a while and tomorrow we will be called for
a meeting with other social media such as Twitter and Instagram , to ask for
their cooperation , " said Surachai Srisaracam , IT Minister of Thailand .
" Currently , there is a campaign asking people to protest against the
army so we need to ask for the cooperation of social media to help us stop it ,
" he added , as quoted by Reuters on Thursday ( 29/05/2014 ) .
Facebook 's closure inevitably sparked protests from its users , amounting to
quite a lot in Thailand . They include a cast criticism via Twitter . According
to estimates , there are approximately 30 million Facebook members in Thailand
.
